ridiculous

My students always say, "I is die." (They think it's hilarious, and naturally I can't help but laugh too. God they can be adorable sometimes.) Anyway, after this weekend all I keep thinking over and over is, "I is die."

For those (two? three?) of you who read my blog religiously, I wrote a while back about an upcoming paintballing and resort weekend. Time sure does fly, and this past weekend was that weekend. A big group of us foreign teachers went to a place called Yangji Pine Resort.

We left Dongtan at 8:30 in the morning. It was the earliest I've woken up for anything since I got here. We took a couple buses to a paintballing place first. It was kind of in some forests in the mountains, so we were all running around shooting each other in the middle of the woods. It was a blast. Hiding out and shooting a gun, I felt like Rambo.

After about four or five games we trekked out of the woods and back into the buses to head for lunch—well, if you can call it lunch—it was more like soju with some dalk galbi on the side. Needless to say, the order of things gets kind of hazy around lunchtime.

After lunch we went to the resort and checked into the rooms. We had three rooms for the whole group to share: two smaller rooms and one large two-floor loft room. There were plenty of yos (thick mats), blankets and pillows for everyone. In the morning, the heated floors and waking up on a yo made me feel like I was the girl from Spirited Away. It was one of those increasingly rare moments when I felt like I was in a foreign country.

Anyway, the resort had tons of things to do. There was bowling, swimming, wall climbing, pool tables, the Alpine slider (I'll get to this bad boy in just a second), golfing, noraebang, and a Family Mart (Korean 7-11) that turned out to be pretty significant as it was the only place that sold liquor.

I think the first thing we did was buy tickets for the Alpine slider. It was 6,000 won each per ticket, which paid for a ski lift ride up and a sled down on a fast winding slide built into the mountain. I went down a few times and crashed my sled one or two times. Like, real serious crashes that have me grieving the loss of about twenty layers of skin on each elbow.

Somewhere in there I went bowling and ate an outdoor Korean BBQ for dinner. We tried to get into the resort's noraebang but they weren't having it. We were turned away until the only option left was to bring the party to one of the rooms.

Well, all of this is probably in the wrong order. The important thing to remember was that Saturday felt never-ending and was just...ridiculous. I don't have a lot of pictures for the blog, but there are plenty on facebook, which most of you have.
